(Mesa, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (4-0) faced a challenge on Tuesday as two NJCAA Division II team faced off in Mesa.
The No. 4 ranked Aztecs remained undefeated after blanking No. 15 Mesa Community College 2-0.
The Aztecs got on the board when sophomore Isamael Ruiz (Tucson Magnet HS) took a pass from sophomore Jacob Lund-Iversen and scored with his left foot, driving the ball to the right side in the 39th minute. The Aztecs led 1-0 at halftime.
Sophomore Brandon Sanchez (Canyon del Oro HS) put the Aztecs ahead by two goals after he scored on a penalty kick in the 68th minute.
The Aztecs finished with six shots on goal shots on goal and held the Thunderbirds (2-2) to just two shots on goal.
Pima freshman goalkeeper Alex Cristerna Oleta (Tucson Magnet HS) finished the game with two saves.
The Aztecs will head back to Mesa Community College on Saturday to play a game against GateWay Community College. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
