It’s the sophomore’s second bronze medal of the week for Canada
(Paris, France) After sharing a podium with former teammate Léon Marchand earlier this week in the 200m fly, Ilya Kharun stormed back in the final 50 meters of the 100m fly to win his second bronze medal Saturday evening at the 2024 Paris Olympics, throwing down a time of 50.45 and sharing the podium with fellow Canadian Josh Liendo.
After turning at the halfway point in 7th place, Kharun came from behind and passed four swimmers in the second 50 meters to finish in 26.72 to get bronze for Canada.

In the 200m fly final this past Wednesday, Kharun claimed a bronze medal by finishing in 1:52.80, which set a Canadian record and was the first medal for Canada in the 200m fly in Olympic history.
The Sun Devil sophomore adds to his impressive résume. He also is an NCAA Champion in the 200y fly and was part of the 400 medley relay team that set an NCAA record with a time of 2:57.32. Kharun is also a six-time Pac-12 champion, winning titles in the 100y fly, 200y fly, 400 medley relay, 400 free relay, 200 free relay and 200 medley relay.
The Sun Devils are set open their season on October 4 against UNLV at 6 p.m. AZT.
