(Gilbert, AZ) Park University Gilbert e-sports head coach Ian Flint has announced the signing of two players to study and play for the Buccaneers starting in the 2024-25 school year.
Anthony “Matsune Hiku” Ortiz, and Bill “Gattsbot” Ruby have joined the esports program to compete in multiple fighting game titles. They will compete in a combination of in person and online tournaments along with other events.
Ortiz has traveled all over the country for e-sports events and finished second at the CEO2023 event for Dead or Alive 5. His top games are Tekken 8, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, Street Fighter 6 and Dead or Alive 5/6. He will major in Sport and Exercise Science at Park.
Ruby, who goes by the nickname Gatts, started playing fighting games at the age of 10 and started competitions between six to seven years ago. His top games are Tekken 7, GBFVR, KoF and SF6 but he plays most fighting games. He will study Business at Park.
“We are excited to bring in players of this caliber to the program,” said Flint. “They will help us to set a standard for future players.”
