NICE TO MEET YOU
This will be the first time ASU has played against each of the following schools: Cincinnati, Oklahoma State and TCU.
IT’S BEEN A MINUTE
ASU has played the following schools either fewer than five times or not in recent memory.
Baylor: Baylor has won all three meetings, most recently in 2019 when the two teams competed in a special game titled “Showdown on the Rez.” The contest, played in Fort Defiance, Ariz., served as a celebration of Native American Heritage Month and also provided a platform to recognize and honor Native Americans who served in the armed forces.
Houston: After never meeting prior to the year 2021, the two teams played twice in eight months with the Cougars claiming wins in the postseason WNIT in March 2021 and again at the Cancun Challenge in November 2021.
Iowa State: ISU has won two of the three meetings… Series started in the 1987-88 season… This will be the first meeting since the 1995-96 season.
Kansas: ASU has won two of the three meetings, including the most recent meeting in 2001-02. The series started in 1991-92.
Kansas State: ASU has won three of the four meetings, most recently a 65-61 win in 2018 that was played at a neutral site. The two teams met for the first time in 1987-88.
Texas Tech: Series started in 1981-82 season… Series is tied 4-4… Last meeting was in 2013 in Lubbock, Texas, a game won by the Sun Devils. The season before, Texas Tech was victorious in Tempe. One of the more memorable contests between the two teams occurred on December 18, 2006. The Sun Devils faced the Red Raiders in ASU’s second-ever outdoor game contest at Chase Field, the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks. In rare – and possibly only occurrence in the history of NCAA Women’s Basketball – the game was called on account of rain with 4:18 to play. ASU, up 61-45 at the time of the stoppage, was awarded the win.
There wasn’t time to close the roof before the court got dangerously wet. The game was called because of concern that players would be injured.
UCF: ASU won the only prior meeting in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament.
West Virginia: WVU won the only prior meeting played in 1987-88 in Tempe.
WE’RE OLD FRIENDS
ASU has played the following schools either on a regular basis or at least 10 times with at least two of those meetings taking place within the last five years. Arizona, BYU, Colorado, Utah.
