(Tucson, AZ) Pima Community College women’s basketball player Rylei Waugh (Westchester HS, CA) will continue her education and collegiate career at the NCAA Division I level.
Waugh, a freshman point guard, committed to San Jose University as she returns to California. The Spartans play in the Mountain West Conference.
Waugh spend one season with the Aztecs but left her mark on the program. She was named First Team NJCAA Division II All-American, NJCAA Division II All-Tournament Team, ACCAC Division II Player of the Year, ACCAC Division II Freshman of the Year, First Team All-ACCAC, First Team All-Region I, Division II and ACCAC Division II Player of the Week six times.
She scored 580 points on the season and owns the school record of 43 points scored in a single game. She also broke the NJCAA Tournament record with 20 made free throws in a game (20-22) and 40 free throws made for a tournament (40-43).
Waugh played and started in all 35 games as she averaged 17.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 2.3 steals. She shot 40.4 percent from the field and 81.6 percent from the free throw line.
