(Gilbert, AZ) Park University Gilbert track and field athlete Owen Olney made his second appearance at the NAIA Men’s Track and Field Championships today as he participated in the high jump. This was the second consecutive year Olney had qualified for the championships.
Unfortunately, Olney did not clear the first benchmark of 6 feet 5 inches (1.97 meters) in three attempts. He qualified for the event with a jump of 6 feet 7 ½ inches (2.02 meters).
The winning jump was made by Shandon Reitzell of Midland who won the competition with a jump of 7 feet 2 ½ inches (2.20 meters). He was tied by Michael Millslagle of Graceland but when neither player made the next height, the jumper with the fewest attempts at the previous height won and Reitzell cleared the height on his first attempt while Millslagle took three tries to clear the mark.
Park Gilbert was one of four California Pacific Conference schools at the championships joining Embry Riddle, Soka and UC Merced.
