Tucson, AZ –The Pima Community College softball team (35-8, 22-2 in ACCAC) kept its streak alive but were forced to come back from seven runs down on Saturday in an ACCAC doubleheader matchup against Central Arizona College (16-17, 12-14).
The Aztecs earned a sweep over the Vaqueras to win their 26th straight game.
Freshman Jazmyne Waddell (San Manuel HS) finished the day going 3 for 8 with five RBIs and two runs scored. She hit a walk-off in the first game and got the win in a complete-game outing in the second game. Freshman Yanelyssia Chavez (Salpointe Catholic HS) had a game-changing hit and got the win in a relief appearance in the first game.
Freshman Talia Martin (Mountain View HS) went 3 for 7 with three RBIs and four runs scored while sophomore Camila Zepeda (Tucson Magnet HS) extended her hitting streak to 19 games as she finished the day 3 for 8 with an RBI and two runs.
Game 1: Pima Aztecs 13, Central Arizona College Vaqueras 12
The Aztecs scored the final eight runs of the game to complete the rally as they never led till the 7thinning walk-off.
With the game tied at 12-12, Martin drew a lead-off walk and freshman Aubrey Marx (Cienega HS) hit a single. Martin moved to third base on a passed ball, which set up Waddell’s sacrifice-fly RBI to left field on the first pitch. Pinch runner Gabriella Salazar (Marana HS) scored from third to end it.
Trailing 12-5 in the bottom of the 6th inning, the Aztecs scored seven runs. Chavez hit a three-run shot to left field on the first pitch to score sophomore Mallory Zylinski-Wrobel (Sahuarita HS) and freshman Cheyanne Ortiz (Tucson Magnet HS) to tie the game at 12-12. Martin and Waddell hit RBI singles and sophomore Mina Chacon (Tucson Magnet HS) hit a sacrifice-fly RBI in the inning.
Down 6-2 in the 3rd inning, the Aztecs cut into the deficit as Zylinski-Wrobel hit an RBI single to score Waddell and freshman Natalya Rivera (Sunnyside HS) hit a two-run RBI single to plate Zylinski-Wrobel and freshman Alyssa Noriega (Pueblo HS) as Pima trailed 6-5.
Chavez finished the game 1 for 2 with three RBIs and a run while Rivera went 2 for 4 with two RBIs and a run. Zylinski-Wrobel was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and three runs scored. Waddell closed out the game at 2 for 5 with two RBIs and a run. Martin went 1 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs. Zepeda was 1 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Chavez pitched the final two and one-third innings, giving up two runs (none earned) on three hits with one walk.

Game 2: Pima Aztecs 10, Central Arizona College Vaqueras 5
The Aztecs took the lead in the bottom of the 1st inning and never relinquished to complete the sweep.
Waddell picked up where she left off as she hit a three-run homer over the center field fence bringing around Marx and Zepeda.
They padded their lead in the 4th inning with another three runs. Martin hit an RBI single to score Ortiz, and Marx followed with a two-run RBI double plating freshman Alyssa Lopez (Sunnyside HS) and Martin to make it 6-1.
The Vaqueras scored two runs in the top of the 5th but the Aztecs countered with two of their own as Ortiz and Rivera had RBI hits to get it back to a five-run lead at 8-3.
Chacon hit a two-run RBI double in the 6th inning to score Martin and Marx as she finished the game at 1 for 4 with two RBIs.
Martin and Marx (No. 1 and No. 2 in the batting order) combined to go 4 for 6 with three RBIs and four runs scored. Ortiz was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored while Rivera was 1 for 3 with an RBI. Zepeda finished 2 for 4 with a run.
Waddell was 1 for 3 with three RBIs and a run scored while also picking up the win in the circle as she pitched all seven innings, giving up five runs (five earned) on nine hits with eight strikeouts and five walks.
