(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College softball team (29-8, 16-2 in ACCAC) has produced the longest winning streak in the last 20 years of school history as it picked up a big sweep over Arizona Western College (23-13, 15-5) in a doubleheader between two ACCAC Division I programs.
The Aztecs are now on a 20-game winning streak, which is the longest stretch since 2004 when the same program won 35 straight games. They captured the NJCAA National Championship that season.
Sophomore Mallory Zylinski-Wrobel (Sahuarita HS) finished the day 4 for 6 with six RBIs and a run. Sophomore Camila Zepeda (Tucson Magnet HS) closed it out going 4 for 7 with four RBIs and four runs scored. Freshman Jazmyne Waddell (San Manuel HS) also had a four-hit day as she was 4 for 6 with two RBIs and three runs. She also picked up a win in the circle. All three players also hit home runs.
Sophomore Mina Chacon (Tucson Magnet HS) closed out her day at 3 for 7 with four RBIs.

Game 1: Pima Aztecs 8, Arizona Western Matadors 7
The Aztecs rallied from a seven-run deficit, scoring eight runs to snag the first game.
The Matadors scored seven runs in the 4th inning. The Aztecs got on the scoreboard in the bottom-half of the 4th when freshman Alyssa Noriega (Pueblo HS) hit an RBI single to score sophomore Jasmine Majonica (Flowing Wells HS).
Freshman Aubrey Marx (Cienega HS) and Zepeda hit back-to-back RBI singles in the 5thinning and Chacon hit a sacrifice-fly RBI to cut it to 7-4. With the bases juiced and two outs, Zylinski-Wrobel took a 3-1 pitch and drove it to left field for a double, bringing around Zepeda, Waddell and freshman Nevaeah Bracamonte to tie the game at 7-7.
The Aztecs recorded two outs to begin the bottom of the 6th but Waddell sent a pitch over the fence in center field to give the Aztecs the lead for good.
Zylinski-Wrobel went 1 for 3 with three RBIs while Waddell finished 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Zepeda was 2 for 4 and Marx finished 1 for 4 as they reach had an RBI and a run scored.
Bracamonte got a 6-3 groundout to open the 7th inning, and after a runner reached base on an error, closed it out on a 4-6-3 double play to get the win. She pitched three and one-third innings in relief, giving up one run (one earned) on two hits with one strikeout and one walk.

Game 2: Pima Aztecs 12, Arizona Western Matadors 2 (5 innings)
Zepeda hit a walk off three-run home run in the 5th inning to secure the run-rule victory as the Aztecs scored five runs in the inning.
Pima loaded the bases with three straight singles to open the 5th. Freshman Talia Martin (Mountain View HS) hit a sacrifice-fly RBI to score pinch runner Mari Asher (Canyon del Oro HS), and Marx followed with an RBI single to plate freshman Natalya Rivera (Sunnyside HS).
Chacon put the Aztecs on the board in the 1st inning with an RBI single but the Matadors took the lead at 2-1 in the 2nd inning.
The Aztecs countered with four runs in the 3rd. Chacon grounded-out with the bases loaded to score Zepeda to tie the game. Zylinski-Wrobel capped off the inning with a three-run homer, scoring Waddell and Noriega to make it 5-2.
Waddell had an RBI and Chacon hit another RBI single in the 4th inning to put the score at 7-2.
Zepeda finished 2 for 3 with three RBIs and three runs scored while Chacon went 2 for 3 with three RBIs. Zylinski-Wrobel was a flawless 3 for 3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Marx went 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs.
Waddell finished 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run as she also picked up the win in the circle, pitching all five innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on three hits with two strikeouts and five walks on 103 pitches.
The Aztecs hit the road on Tuesday when they play at Yavapai College in an ACCAC doubleheader. First game starts at 1:00 p.m.
