(Claremont, CA) Another day of offensive firepower and fierce defense for No. 11 Sun Devil Water Polo led to two more wins at the Convergence Tournament Saturday in Claremont, California. This time, it was a 11-3 victory over Concordia-Irvine in the early hours of Saturday morning, and ending the weekend with an 20-6 win over Biola Saturday afternoon to go 4-0 for the weekend.
Arizona State (18-4, 0-1 MPSF) managed to outscore opponents 70-22 in four games in California, showing dominance on offense and on defense throughout the weekend.
Luca Petovary tallied 22 goals in four games, and surpassed 100 goals for the season, becoming the sixth player in MPSF history to tally 100 in a season, and becoming the first Sun Devil to do so. She’s three points away from becoming the record holder for most points in a season with 124.
Millie Quin registered four goals against the Eagles in the Sun Devils’ 11-3 victory Saturday morning, making it the 11th time she’s surpassed 3+ goals in a game, and breaking the 50-goal mark this season. Sanne Keijzer notched two assists in the win against the Eagles, along with six saves.
Against Biola, six Sun Devils had multi-goal games, in total, eight donning the maroon & gold netted a goal, contributing to the win. Sophie Shorter-Robinson and Kat Featherstoneled the way with four-goals a piece.
Game One: No. 11 Arizona State 11, Concordia-Irvine 3
After three minutes of play to start the game, Kat Featherstone secured ASU’s first goal of the game to take a 1-0 lead. Late in the quarter, the Eagles equalized to tie the game at one through the opening frame.
Shorter-Robinson buried a goal in the opening minute to give ASU a 2-1 lead. Then after trading possessions, Petovary and Quin each found the back of the net giving the Sun Devils a 4-1 advantage heading into halftime.
Returning from the break, Quin and Petovary each scored their second goal in the opening minute to give the Sun Devils a 6-1 lead. Then after a goal by the Eagles, Petovary and Millie each netted hat-tricks to give the Sun Devils an 8-2 lead. The senior would add her fourth goal before the end of the third frame.
The Sun Devils maintained momentum in the final quarter of play. Petovary netted a penalty shot to obtain another five-goal game, then Millie Quin scored her fourth goal of the game to give ASU an 11-3 lead with 4:39 to play, and eventually the win.
In the victory, Jasmijn DIkmans was a force on the defensive side with four steals and two field-blocks.

Game two: No. 11 Arizona State 20, Biola 6
The Sun Devils scored four unanswered goals in the first quarter thanks to four different players netting goals in the game. Shorter-Robinson scored the games first goal at the 6:21 mark in the first frame. Then, Kokorowski navigated an open net to make it 2-0. Later in the quarter, Alba Olivé-Martí and Zoe Frangieh scored one goal apiece to give ASU a 4-0 lead after the 1st quarter.
The freshmen led the way for the Sun Devils’ scoring three straight after a Biola goal, led by Featherstone cashing on her first shot of the game, then Gabby Gaetano being sucessful on a penalty shot. Later, Ashley Fergison scored her first goal at the five-minute mark in the second quarter, giving ASU a 7-1 lead.
Following another Biola goal, Frangieh scored her second goal of the game at the 2:55 mark, maintaining control of the game leading 8-2. Petovary and Shorter-Robion would find the net once more to give the Sun Devils a commanding 11-2 lead at halftime.
The offense continued to find success with outsourcing Biola X-X in the third quarter. Petovary netted her 100th goal of the season halfway through the period, and two goals by Olivé-Martí paced the Sun Devil lead to ten entering the final frame.
Starting the fourth, Kat Featherstone won the sprint then added her third goal of the game, giving the Sun Devils a 16-5 lead. The maroon & gold would later score four more times, leading to a 20-6 victory.
