(Tempe, AZ) It was a sweep to start the home slate for No. 11 Sun Devil Beach Volleyball, beating Colorado Mesa 5-0 in the home opener on Friday.
The win over Colorado Mesa (4-3) keeps Arizona State’s record perfect at 5-0, extending the already record-long streak to start a season. Five wins in a row is also tied for the second-longest winning streak in team history, the longest being six.
Courts three, four and five all won their matches in straight sets. For the sophomore duo of Adriana Nieves Papaleo and Kendall Whitmarsh, they improved to 5-0 together this season. The top two courts took three sets to get the win, both winning the first and dropping the second. But both won the third set by the same 15-12 margin.
Junior Rylie Kael made her season debut on court four with freshman Ava Haughy, winning 21-18, 21-13.
