(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (21-6, 16-4 in ACCAC) dominated the second half against Glendale Community College (7-19, 3-17) on Saturday in route to its ninth straight victory.
The No. 12 ranked Aztecs outscored the Gauchos 40-16 in the second half and went on to a 67-38 win at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.
The Aztecs took their first double digit lead at 23-13 after starting the second quarter on a 12-2 run but the Gauchos cut it in half as Pima led 27-22 at the break.
The Aztecs outscored the Gauchos 18-5 in the third quarter to take a 45-27 lead. Pima scored the last nine points of the quarter.
The Aztecs went on an 11-0 run late in the fourth quarter and led by as much as 31 points (67-36).
Freshman Rylei Waugh scored a game-high 22 points as she went 10 for 16 from the field to go along with eight rebounds, six assists, two blocks and a steal. She has scored in double figures in 23 of the 25 games so far this season.
Freshman Rori Hoffmeyer (Cibola HS) produced her sixth double-double of the season as she finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds. She was 5 for 6 shooting. Hoffmeyer has had double digits in rebounds in nine games this season.
Sophomore Dominique Acosta (Nogales HS) fell short of a double-double as she posted nine points and nine rebounds.
Freshman Gabby Lopez (Bisbee HS) posted eight points while sophomore Jordan Joe and freshman Annalise Holthaus (Ironwood Ridge HS) each contributed with six points off the bench. Joe grabbed six rebounds and Holthaus had four boards.
The Aztecs will play at Scottsdale Community College on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
