(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (18-6, 13-4 in ACCAC) cruised to its sixth straight win on Saturday as it toppled Yavapai College (5-18, 5-11) at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.
The No. 14 ranked Aztecs used a 19-4 run in the second quarter to break away as they closed out the Roughriders 92-53. They outscored them 24-8 for the quarter.
Sophomore Jordan Joe drained three 3-pointers during the run and freshman Amelie Buffill-Gutierrez’s (Sabino HS) bucket capped off the run as the Aztecs took a 45-23 lead into the locker room.
Up 61-38, the Aztecs used a 14-0 run between the third and fourth quarter to make it 75-38. The Aztecs outscored the Roughriders 47-30 in the second half.
Joe scored 15 of her game-high 20 points in the first half as she finished going 8 for 11 from the field and 4 for 7 from three-point range. She also grabbed six rebounds.
Freshman Rylei Waugh flirted with a triple-double as she went for 16 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds.
Freshman Sage Begay (Flagstaff HS) went 4 for 5 from beyond the arc and scored 14 points to go with three assists, two rebounds and two steals.
Sophomore Taina Lee shot 4 for 8 from the field and contributed with 11 points off the bench.
The Aztecs are back at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium on Wednesday for a showdown with No. 5 ranked Mesa Community College. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
