- (Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (9-2) returned from the holiday break and opened the Aztec Holiday Classic with a victory on Thursday at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.
The No. 14 ranked Aztecs outscored Bismarck State College by double figures in three of the four quarters to win 89-40.
The Aztecs took a 20-6 at the end of the first quarter and led 38-20 at halftime. The Aztecs went on a 27-8 run in the third quarter to take a 65-28 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Freshman Rylei Waugh scored 11 of her 18 points in the first half as she went 7 for 15 from the field. She had seven assists, five steals and no turnovers.
Sophomore Dominique Acosta (Nogales HS) scored 10 of her 15 points in the first half and completed her double-double with 10 rebounds as she also went 7 for 15 from the field.
Freshman Sage Begay (Flagstaff HS) went 5 for 6 from the field and finished with 12 points off the bench. She was 2 for 3 from beyond the arc. Sophomore Jordan Joe scored nine points off the bench.
The Aztecs return to the Aztec Gymnasium for the second day of the Aztec Holiday Classic as they face off against Eastern Wyoming College at 7:30 p.m.
