(Phoenix, AZ) The ASU Women got the Jerry Colangelo Classic started and the faced Fresno State Bulldogs.
Both teams went back and forth and it was 19-18 at the halfway point. The Bulldogs were more efficient from beyond the arc going 3-7 and an advantage on the boards 14-9.
The Devils defense kept backcourt pressure on Fresno State, forcing nine turnovers mostly off six steals.
Arizona State pulled ahead to give themselves a little cushion 39-33 at the intern mission.
Jayla Brown led the team with 11 points and team leading 4 rebounds.
The Devils reverted to their old ways, moving the ball around the perimeter looking for that interior pass. In their game last Sunday, ASU would make one pass and then play isolation clear out which was their demise against rival Arizona in 91-52 blowout loss.
The third quarter, each team had small runs, but the Sun Devils maintained their lead.
Kadidia Toure continued to lead the team with 22 points on 10-13 shooting.
Fresno State made up the deficit in the fourth quarter and traded baskets and kept it a one or two possession game even under a minute left.
Jaddan Simmons calmly sank two free throws with 6.6 seconds remaining to make a two possession game and that was enough to win 80-76.
Devils had five players in double figures; Toure led all scorers with 20 points.
This game was a much needed bounce back game after their opening conference game loss.
ASU will host Santa Clara on December 30th to wrap up their non conference schedule.
