(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s basketball team (10-1) opened play in the Aztec Holiday Classic on Thursday at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.
The No. 14 ranked Aztecs defeated Bismarck State College (ND) 107-62.
Up 34-29 with 5:44 left in the half, the Aztecs called timeout to regroup and put together a 24-3 run to end the half. The Aztecs led 58-32 at the break.
The Aztecs continued their strong play outscoring the Mystics 27-9 to start off the second half as they took an 85-41 lead.
Freshman Cohenj Gonzales scored a team-high 17 points as he went 4 for 7 from the field and 4 for 6 from three-point range.
Sophomore Dillan Baker (Salpointe Catholic HS) went for 14 points while fellow sophomore Jaylen Alexander scored 11 points after going 5 for 6 from the field. He also had seven rebounds and three blocks.
Freshman Kota Benson (Mesa HS) led the bench scoring with 10 points as he went 3 for 5 from beyond the arc. Sophomore Tanner Poeschl (Skyline HS) had nine points and six rebounds.
The Aztecs return to the Aztec Gymnasium on Friday when they play No. 5 ranked Snow College (Division I) at 3:00 p.m.
