(Tucson, AZ) The Tucson Sugar Skulls have re-signed wide receiver Carrington Thompson for the 2024 season.
The Skulls’ star veteran receiver made the 2023 All-IFL First-Team Offense, making him the lone Sugar Skull on that list. He was a major contributor to Tucson’s offense for the second season in a row and played a key role in guiding the Skulls to the number three seed in the Western Conference.
In the 2023 season, Thompson averaged 10.5 yards per catch, while hauling in a team-high 86 receptions. He tallied 906 receiving yards to go with 24 touchdowns as the Sugar Skulls claimed the No. 3 seed in the West.
This will be Thompson’s third season with the Tucson Sugar Skulls, after joining the team ahead of the 2022 season. He has made the playoffs in both seasons with Tucson.
Prior to his time in Tucson, Thompson spent time with the Iowa Barnstormers. In the 2021 season, Thompson was Iowa’s leading receiver in every category, with 39 receptions for 568 yards and eight touchdowns in just ten games.
Prior to joining Iowa, Thompson was a primary playmaker for the West Michigan Ironmen of the American Arena League (AAL). Thompson joined West Michigan after going undrafted in the 2017 NFL Draft, following a highly successful career at Western Michigan University.
During his senior season in 2016, Thompson caught 42 passes for 637 yards and six touchdowns, as he helped the Broncos go undefeated (13-0) in the regular season. That year, Thompson would play for WMU in the Cotton Bowl and the team finished the year ranked No. 15 in the Final AP poll.
