(Oakland, CA) The California Pacific Conference has announced Park University Gilbert Cross Country Runners Davin Soto and Maryan Sharif as Cal Pac Cross Country Men’s and Women’s Athletes of the Week for October 9, 2023. This award covers meets over the last two weeks.
This is the first Athlete of the Week Award for Soto and the second consecutive win for Sharif.
The Bucs participated in two meets over the last two weekends, first traveling to Tucson, Ariz., for the Dave Murray Invitational, hosted by the University of Arizona. This meet featured mostly NCAA Division I competition. Soto finished 47th in the 8K race with a time of 27:03.7. Sharif finished 62nd in the 6K race with a time of 25:11.9.
The next week, the Bucs travelled to Casa Grande, Ariz., to run in the George Young Invitational, hosted by Central Arizona College. Both Soto and Sharif posted top 10 finishes with Soto finishing 6th (27:27.1) and Sharif placing 5th (20:38.8) in a 5K race.
Up next for the Bucs is the Cal Pac Championships held by UC Merced at Woodward Park in Fresno, Calif. on Monday, Oct. 30.
