(Coolidge, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s cross country team competed at the George Young Invitational on Saturday held at Central Arizona College.
The Aztecs took second place in the final team standings with a score of 33 points. They were edged out by Central Arizona College, who took first place with 28 points. The Aztecs beat the College of Southern Nevada (71), Park University-Gilbert (94) and Phoenix College (99).
The Aztecs took half of the spots among the top 10 individuals. Freshman Hall Griffith was the top finisher as he closed out the 8K race (4.97-miles) in third place with a time of 26 minutes, 54.0 seconds (averaging 5:24 per mile). Fellow freshman Declan Jorgenson (Ironwood Ridge HS) was right behind him in fourth place finishing the race with a time of 26:59 (5:25 per mile).
Sophomore Justin VanDeberg (Gile Ridge HS) placed seventh with a time of 27:40 while freshman Evan Rasoumoff (Catalina Foothills HS) crossed the finish line in ninth place at 27:51.
Freshman Jace Schaub (Canyon del Oro HS) rounded out the top 10 as he finished with a time of 27:57.
The Aztecs will compete in the Highlander Cross Country Invitational next Saturday, Oct. 14 at the UCR Agricultural Operations Course in Riverside, CA.
