(Mesa, AZ) The Park University Gilbert volleyball team took care of business this afternoon sweeping a winless Antelope Valley team 3-0 (25-15, 25-23, 25-16) at Legacy Sports Park. The Bucs move over .500 overall for the first time this season at 10-9. They are 8-5 in the Cal Pac Conference. Antelope Valley falls to 0-18, 0-13.
The Bucs dominated the stat sheet winning the first set handily 25-15. The Bucs had 15 kills to only six for the Pioneers in the opening frame.
The second set was much tighter as UAV played a much better set leading 7-3 and 13-10 at different points within the set. The Bucs then went on a 13-5 run to make the score 23-18 and looked as though they would cruise home, but UAV made a game of it with a 5-1 run to bring it within one before the Bucs put it away with a blast from Railey Druxman.
The third set saw the Pioneers up 8-5 early before an 11-3 Bucs run put them in command and they would cruise home with 17 kills in the set for a 25-16 final set triumph.
Overall, the Bucs outhit the Pioneers 46-26 in killas and had a .307 hitting percentage. The Bucs also had seven aces to only two for the Pioneers.
Individually, Druxman led the way once again with 11 kills and only one hitting error as she hit .500 for the game. Jade Laikona also had an impressive afternoon with 10 kills and only one error herself as she hit .450. Kyla Knight hit .412 with eight kills and one error.
Daniella Miranda-Johnson had 24 assists to lead the team, while Makayla Simmons had 14 digs to lead the squad and Uma Lorentzen had a career high 12 digs.
Park Gilbert now heads to southern California to take on first place and undefeated Saint Katherine and a red hot Providence Christian squad next week as it tries to add on to its season long five-game winning streak.
