(San Marcos, CA) The Park University Gilbert volleyball team fell to No. 23 Saint Katherine this evening 3-0 (17-25, 9-25, 22-25) at the USK Sports Complex. The Bucs fall to 10-10 on the season, 8-6 in conference play. USK remains undefeated at 15-0 in conference and is 23-2 overall.
The Bucs offense, which has been potent of late was neutralized by a tough USK defense which posted 21 blocks and had 43 digs as they held the Bucs to only 20 kills and 24 errors. The 20 kills was the second lowest total for the Bucs and its worst since its second match against Montana State Northern where a shorthanded Bucs squad only posted 17 kills and is the only other match the Bucs have hit negatively this season.
But despite the Bucs troubles on offense, the Buc defense held a usually high-octane offense which entered the week hitting .265 to a .198 attack percentage.
Mallory Turner and Railey Druxman posted half of the Bucs kills as they each had five kills. Turner was the most efficient player for the Bucs tonight hitting .500.
The Buccaneers now travel north to Pasadena, Calif., to finish this two-match road trip against Providence Christian tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m.
