(Glendale, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s cross country team competed in the NJCAA Region I, Division I Championships on Saturday at Glendale Heroes Regional Park.
The Aztecs took second place with a score of 40 points. Central Arizona College placed first with a total of 15 points.
Freshman Mariah Cruz (Mountain View HS) was the top finisher for the Aztecs as she took sixth place in the 5K (3.1 mile) race with a time of 21 minutes, 04.7 seconds.
Freshman Alyssa Perez (Agua Fria HS) placed seventh with a time of 21:15.7 while freshman Linda Rivero (Desert View HS) took eighth place at 21:35.8.
Freshman Reatta Danhof (Ironwood Ridge HS) crossed the finish line in ninth place with a time of 21:36.9 and freshman Sara Bredenkamp (Kingman Academy) finished in 10th place with a time of 21:45.5. Sophomore Iyannah Tolliver (Sahuaro HS) placed 11thwith a finishing time of 25:54.1.
Cruz, Perez, Rivero, Danhof, Bredenkamp and Tolliver earned All-Region honors.
The Aztecs will compete in the NJCAA Division I National Championships on Saturday, Nov. 11 at the John Hunt Cross Country Park in Huntsville, AL.
