R(Mesa, AZ)  This is why you never take anything for granted. The Park University Gilbert men’s soccer team lost late to Pacific Union College by a score of 1-0 this evening at Legacy Sports Park in Mesa, Ariz. The Buccaneers dominated every facet of this game but the scoreboard. The Buccaneers now sport a record of 2-5-3 overall and 2-2-2 in California Pacific Conference play. PUC moves to 2-5-2, 2-4-0 in the Cal Pac.

The Bucs dominated the first half, holding the Pioneers without a shot while getting three shots of their own although they only managed to get one on goal. Each team had three corner set piece opportunities in the half.

The second half was more of the same with the Bucs dominating the action in the Pioneer zone but unable to take advantage.

The inability of the Bucs to get that first goal became costly late in the game.

In the 87th minute a foul in the box by Simon Puchner gave Pacific Union a penalty shot and they took advantage. Their only shot on goal for the game turned into the only goal of the game.

Park had 10 shots (3 on goal) in the second half to only 2 for PUC with the one shot one goal. Park would add five more corner kick opportunities in the second half but were not able to convert.

Liam Brag and Oliver Haaland each had three shots on goal with Haaland getting two of the Bucs four shots on goal.

Zac Stephenson was the hard luck loser in goal for the Bucs as he had a fantastic night in goal with the penalty shot his only blemish.

The Buccaneers will look to rebound next week with matchups at UC Merced (Sept. 29) and Cal Maritime (Oct. 1). The Bucs tied Merced a year ago and walloped Cal Maritime 12-0.
