(Tempe, AZ) Sun Devil Lacrosse welcomes graduate transfer Shannon Urey to Tempe as announced by head coach Taryn VanThof Tuesday morning. The Big South Offensive Player of the Year tallied 90 points in the 2023 season highlighted by 83 goals, 50 more than the next highest scorer at Mercer University, and seven assists.
“Shannon is a powerful addition to our offense. She is coming off a stellar season and a conference championship,” VanThof said. “I am excited to add her leadership and experience to Sun Devil Lacrosse.”
From Chattanooga, Tennessee, Urey spent the past four seasons with the Bears where she scored 152 goals in 60 games with a .786 shot on goal percentage. Checking in at 6-foot-1, Urey had 25 ground balls and five caused turnovers. Her single goal career game high is 11. Urey was a member of the 2023 Big South Championship with Mercer where she scored 11 goals.
Before Urey went to Mercer she played for Baylor School for five years under head coach Taylor Moody and also played for the Hotlanta Lacrosse club for five years. She was named to the All-Region and All-State team.
