Brook Peterson and Jackie Trice earn All-American honors after first day at NJCAA National Championships

(Hobbs, NM)  The Pima Community College women’s and men’s track & field teams competed in the first day of the NJCAA Division I National Championships on Thursday in Hobbs, NM.

The women’s team earned nine team points on the day.

Freshman Brooke Peterson (Mingus HS) took second place in the Pole Vault after clearing her third attempt at 3.67 meters (12-feet, 0.50-inches) as she earned eight team points. Peterson’s season-best was 3.76 meters (12-4), which she set at the Canyon Invitational last month.

Sophomore Jackie Trice (Williams Field HS) became a two-time NJCAA All-American in the Long Jump after she took eighth place and gained one team point for the Aztecs. She hit a mark of 5.71 meters (18-8.75) on her third attempt. She is also competing in the Heptathlon, which she will finish up on Friday.

Other Pima finishes:

Kapualani Magnani (Empire HS) – 17th place in the Hammer Throw 42.58 meters (139-8) (season-best).

The second day of the NJCAA Division I National Championships is set for Friday.
