Aztecs Women’s Track & Field takes third place at Region I Championships

(Mesa, AZ)  The Pima Community College women’s track & field team closed out competition at the NJCAA Region I Championships on Thursday in Mesa.

The Aztecs finished in third place with a score of 125 points. Mesa Community College placed first with 247 and Central Arizona College took second place with 240 points. The Aztecs beat out Paradise Valley Community College (67), Glendale Community College (61) and Phoenix College (3).

Freshman Taylynd Stuhr (Buckeye Union HS) tied for second place in the High Jump with a mark of 1.47 meters (4-feet, 9.75-inches).

Freshman Brooke Peterson (Mingus HS) captured the Region I championship in the Pole Vault and sophomore Jessica Bright-Schade (Safford HS) took first place in the Javelin on Tuesday.

Other finishes that earned team points:

Trinity Bethea, Brooke Peterson, Naiomi Hereim, Maddie Warren) – 3^rd in 4×400 relay 4:00.62 (6 points)

Brooke Warren, Trinity Bethea, Naiomi Hereim. Maddie Warren – 3^rd in 4×100 relay 50.23 (6 points)

Tianna Moseley – 3^rd in Triple Jump 11.24 meters (36-10.50) (6 points); 8^th in 100 hurdles 16.08 (1 point)

Trinity Bethea – 4^th in 400 meters 58.41 (5 points); 5^th in 200 meters 25.51 (4 points).

Kapualani Magnani – 5^th in Shot Put 10.53 meters (34-6.75) (4 points); 7^th in Discus 32.10 meters (105-3).

Psalm Johnson – T-5^th in High Jump 1.37 meters (4-6) (3 points); 5^th in Triple Jump 10.70 meters (35-1.25) (4 points).

Julia Lundberg – 5^th in 1,500 5:10.90 (4 points); 6^th in 800 meters 2:37.19 (3 points); 6^thin 5,000 meters 21:48.56 (3 points)

Annika Arvayo (Salpointe Catholic HS) – 6^th in Shot Put 10.41 meters (34-2) (3 points)

Maddie Warren – 6^th in 400 meters 1:02.89 (3 points)

Taylynd Stuhr – 7^th in 800 meters 2:48.43 (2 points)

Brooke Peterson – 7^th in 100 hurdles 15.86 (2 points)

Iyannah Tolliver – 8^th in 400 meters 1:06.88 (1 point)

Tianna Moseley – 8^th in 100 hurdles 16.08 (1 points)

The NJCAA Division I National Tournament will be in Hobbs, NM from May 18-20.
