(Tucson, AZ) Pima Community College men’s soccer player Cristian Gutierrez (Cholla HS) is continuing his collegiate journey at the four-year university level.
Gutierrez, a sophomore midfielder, committed to Manhattan Christian College as part of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) in Manhattan, Kansas. The Thunder play in the Midwest Christian College Conference. They went 9-7 and 5-0 in conference play during the 2022 season.
Gutierrez played in 25 career games for the Aztecs scoring eight goals and with one assist. The Aztecs went 28-5-5 with Gutierrez on the roster, which included being a big part in Pima’s 2021 national championship run and left his mark on the final game.
“All you need to know about Cristian is his character, his mental strength and discipline,” Pima men’s soccer coach David Cosgrove said. “In the 2021 National Championship game, Cristian had to come right off the bench and take a penalty kick in the shootout. As expected, Cristian delivered. He has always delivered.”
Gutierrez’s penalty kick put the Aztecs up 4-3 in the shootout. They won it 5-3 after Francisco Manzo (Salpointe Catholic HS) made his shot to seal it.
The Aztecs begin the 2023 season in August.
