(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College softball team (32-19, 28-14 in ACCAC) could not contain Central Arizona College’s (37-15, 33-9) offensive onslaught on Tuesday as the teams locked up in an ACCAC doubleheader at the West Campus Aztec Softball Field.
The Aztecs gave up 27 runs to the Vaqueras on the day. Freshman Mallory Zylinski-Wrobel (Sahuarita HS) finished the day 4 for 9 with six RBIs and three runs scored. Fellow freshman Mina Chacon (Tucson Magnet HS) was also 4 for 9 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Sophomore Elise Munoz (Salpointe Catholic HS) closed it out after going 4 for 8 with an RBI and three runs scored.
Game 1: Vaqueras 11, Aztecs 3
The Aztecs took an early lead but the Vaqueras scored 10 unanswered runs.
The Aztecs went up 2-0 in the 1st inning when Munoz scored on a wild pitch and Chacon hit an RBI single to score freshman Camila Zepeda (Tucson Magnet HS).Chacon hit a two-out double to set up freshman Alexis Tsosie-Hood’s RBI double to make it 3-1.
The Vaqueras took the lead for good with five runs in the 4th inning. They also scored two in the 5th and three in the 7th inning.
Chacon finished the game 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run while Tsosie-Hood was 1 for 2 with an RBI. Zepeda went 3 for 4 with a run scored and Munoz finished 1 for 3 with a run.
Tsosie-Hood took the loss (8-4) as she pitched three and two-third innings, giving up six runs (six earned) on nine hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

Game 2: Vaqueras 16, Aztecs 15
The Aztecs were locked in an offensive battle with the Vaqueras and rallied to take the lead but Central Arizona scored runs in the 7th to retake the lead for good.
Trailing 12-6 heading into the bottom of the 5th inning, the Aztecs rallied and scored six runs in the frame to tie it up. Zylinski-Wrobel hit a two-run RBI single to drive in sophomore Mia Casadei (Tanque Verde HS) and Munoz. Two batters later, Chacon hit a two-run RBI single of her own to cut it to 12-10. Sophomore Wendy Castro (Canyon del Oro HS) came through to tie the game at 12-12 with her two-run RBI single plating sophomore Stephanie Tapia (Cibola HS) and Chacon.
The Aztecs continued the momentum in the 6th inning. Zylinski-Wrobel hit a three-run homer to bringing around Munoz and Zepeda, who had both singled in the inning to reach base.
The Aztecs led 15-12 but the Vaqueras scored four runs in the top of the 7th inning to take the lead. The Aztecs went down in order in the bottom of the 7th to end it.
Zylinski-Wrobel finished the game 4 for 5 with six RBIs and three runs scored. Tapia hit a three-run home run as part of a five-run 1st inning as she went 1 for 3 with three RBIs, two runs scored and two walks.
Chacon and Castro each finished with two RBIs and a run scored. Munoz went 3 for 5 with an RBI and two runs scored while sophomore Analisa Gomez (University HS) was 2 for 5 with an RBI and two runs.
Tsosie-Hood pitched in relief and took the loss (8-5) as she went two and two-third innings, giving up four runs (four earned) on four hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

The Aztecs will play in their third straight ACCAC doubleheader at the West Campus Aztec Field on Saturday when they host Chandler-Gilbert Community College. First pitch is at 1:00 p.m.
