(Oakland, AZ) Park University Gilbert Libero Tyler Yu was selected as the California Pacific Conference Defender of the Week for his performance this past week against the northern California schools. This is his first Cal Pac Defender of the Week award in his career.
Yu was all over the floor this past week, averaging 11 digs per match and 3.18 digs per set. He also was a stalwart in serve receive handling 82 serves over the three matches this past week with only two receive errors.
Yu had 13 digs in the Bucs five-set thrilling win over Pacific Union on Friday and followed that with another 13 in the Bucs match with UC Merced on Sunday. Yu also had 11 assists as the second option on out of system plays.
The senior from Tempe, Ariz. leads the team with 85 digs this season and only seven receive errors in 200 attempts this season.
This week the Buccaneers Olivet Nazarene on Thursday, March 9 at 2 p.m. in a non-conference match before hosting third-ranked Benedictine Mesa on Sunday, March 12 at 12 p.m. Both matches will take place at Bell Bank Park in Mesa, Arizona.
