(San Diego, CA) Sun Devil Track and Field is back outdoors. ASU opened the outdoor season Saturday at San Diego State’s Aztec Invitational where the team won eight events and had 13 total top-3 finishes Saturday. First-year Sun Devil transfer Jeremiah Curryand Jalen Drayden both hadhuge days. Curry won the 200m and helped the 4×100 and 4×400 teams to victory, while Drayden won the 100m and also assisted on the relays. In the field, Turner Washington swept the shot put and discus events. Other top marks came from Grace Campbell who jumped to sixth in program history for the high jump and Dubem Nwachukwu who set a personal record en route to winning his first collegiate 400m race.
Of note:
The relays continue to be HOT! The men’s 4×100 won in 39.23. That’s ASU’s fastest 4×1 time since 2014 when they ran 39.08.
Dubem Nwachukwu won the 400m in 46.10, setting a new personal record and marking his first collegiate 400m victory.
Jalen Drayden and Jeremiah Curry are in prime form. Drayden won the 100m in 10.34, tying his lifetime best. Curry won the 200m in 20.75, just shy of his lifetime PR. They both contributed to the 4×1 victory along with the 3:09.30 win in the 4×400.
Grace Campbell took second in the high jump, leaping 1.80m/5-10.75. That’s a new PR for her and ties her for sixth all-time in ASU’s record books.
Freshman Trevor Querciagrossa won the 5,000m in 14:36.40. That’s his first ever collegiate 5K, and he crossed the line 30 seconds ahead of team Jonathan Estrada (15:04.25).
Turner Washington is back to doing Turner Washington things. He won the shot and discus, though both marks were far off his PRs. His shot went 18.96m/62-2.5, while his disc went 60.97m/200
