(Stillwater, OK) It was a tough afternoon at Cowgirl Stadium for Sun Devil softball as they dropped a pair of games at the OSU Mizuno Classic. No. 22 Arizona State was no-hit by UCF in an 8-0 loss in six innings to start the day before falling to No. 2 Oklahoma State 1-0 in the second game.
GAME 1: UCF 8, Arizona State 0 (6 innings)
Arizona State began the day by being no-hit by the Knights. The Sun Devils had the leadoff hitter reach four times during the six innings, but they were 0-for-9 with runners on and 0-for-4 in scoring position.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UCF scored twice and left two runners on in each of the second and third innings.
Kenzie Brown would escape a bases loaded jam without allowing a run in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Walks by Shannon Cunningham and Jazmine Hill gave the Sun Devils a pair of base runners in the fifth, but a groundout and pop out ended the scoring threat.
UCF closed out the run-rule and no-hitter by scoring four times in the bottom of the sixth.
GAME 2: Oklahoma State 1, Arizona State 0
Mac Osborne held the host Cowgirls to three hits in her third complete game of the season. She worked around five walks by holding OSU hitless in seven at-bats with runners in scoring position and posting two strikeouts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
OSU scored the game’s only run in the bottom of the first using a single, walk, passed ball and groundout.
The Sun Devils drew a pair of walks in the third inning, but were unable to scratch a run across.
Yaya Acuña had the first hit of the day for ASU with a pinch-hit single to start the fourth inning. She was stranded at second after a sacrifice, strikeout and groundout ended the inning.
Sara Kinch helped the Sun Devils out of a jam in the fifth inning by picking off a runner at second with two outs.
NOTABLE
In being no-hit by UCF, Arizona State snapped a span of 913 consecutive games with at least one hit. A streak that dated back to April 6, 2007.
The 1-0 loss to Oklahoma State was the team’s first loss in a one-run game this season after starting 4-0.
ASU didn’t commit an error against OSU to snap a streak of six straight games with a miscue in the field.
Kenzie Brown had six strikeouts against UCF to match her career-high in a relief appearance.
Acuña tallied a pinch-hit single leading off the fifth inning against Oklahoma State. The first hit of the day for ASU was the third hit off the bench this season for Acuña.
Osborne has now allowed one earned run or less in six straight appearances, including five starts.
The 88 pitches by Osborn are her second-most this season.

ASU closes its trip to Oklahoma with two more games at the OSU Mizuno Classic on Saturday. The day begins at 10 a.m. MST against Minnesota before a rematch with UCF at 3 p.m. MST.
