(San Francisco, CA)   After a record-breaking week for herself and her team, senior Hannah Scharf was named the Pac-12 Coaches Choice of the Week on Tuesday, as announced by the conference.

This is the second weekly award of the year for Sun Devil Gymnastics after junior Emily White won the same award earlier this month. This is Scharf’s fifth weekly award of her career and her second coaches choice honor.

In two meets this past week, Scharf was stellar. She led ASU to two wins and two scores of 197-plus. She helped ASU score the 11th and 12th-best team scores in program history against No. 4 Utah and UW, respectively. The 197.475 at Washington is the best true road score in ASU history. This week also pushed the team up in the NQS rankings to No. 15 from No. 22 at the start of last week, an increase from 196.360 to 196.870.

In the win over No. 4 Utah, she needed to hit a 9.875 on floor in the anchor spot to get the win and she scored a 9.925. That secured their first victory vs. Utah since January 24, 2003, and the first victory against the Utes at home since February 18, 2000.  She set her all-around career high with a 39.675, which ranks as 10th-best all around in Gym Devil history. Her best event of the day was a 9.975 on bars, a new career high not only on that event, but in any event. Her 9.975 on bars against the Utes won her an event title and was the highest individual bars score since 2019. She helped the team score a 49.550, which is the second-highest bars score in ASU history. A new season high event total was also earned on beam (49.325). That meet was also on her birthday.

In the win at Washington, Scharf led the way with her 39.625, which is tied for the 14th-highest all-around score in program history. She tied her career high and season high on floor with a 9.950, the highest score by a Gym Devil on any event at the meet. She also helped the team get season highs on vault (49.325) and floor (49.500).

After two big all-around scores, Scharf jumped up to No. 14 on Road to Nationals in the all-around from No. 23. She also moved up to No. 22 on floor in the nation. On Monday of last week, she also was named a finalist for the AAI Award. She won four event titles this week: two in the all-around, one on bars and one on floor. Between the two meets, she did not score below a 9.875. In the last four meets, she has not scored below a 9.900 on floor. She has not scored below a 9.800 in any event in five meets.

Head to the Pac-12’s website for the full list of weekly winners.

The Gym Devils are home this Saturday, March 4, for Senior Day against No. 11 Oregon State. The meet will begin at 3 p.m MST and will be on the Pac-12 Network.
