(Angwin, CA) The Park University Gilbert men’s volleyball team dropped its third straight match on its northern California road trip losing to Pacific Union College 3-1 (25-22, 18-25, 25-22, 26-24).
The Buccaneers fall to 2-14, 1-10 in California Pacific Conference play. Pacific Union gets its first win of the season and moves to 1-15, 1-8 in conference.
This is the first win in program history for Pacific Union in a played match. The Pioneers received two wins a year ago due to forfeit.
The Buccaneers did not play poorly tonight as they posted 51 kills and hit .305. They had more blocks (Park 4-1), fewer errors (Park 15, PUC 20) and were right there in digs (Park 46, PUC 48). The Pioneers however had seven more kills with 58 and had four more service aces (PUC 5-1).
The Buccaneers had three players in double digit kills, led by Nico Gutierrez and Ben Turcinecwith 13 kills and David Shafer with 12. All three players hit over .300. Nathan Smith added seven kills and hit .462 in the middle.
Tyler Yu set a new career high for digs with 16, while Hunter Miller (21) and Jake Burdick (20) combined for 41 of the Bucs 50 assists. Gutierrez led the team with two blocks.
The Buccaneers next take the court next Saturday, March 25 as they take on Warner at noon at Bell Bank Park in Mesa, Ariz. before closing out the conference season that evening at No. 2 Benedictine Mesa at Chandler Gilbert Community College.
