(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College baseball team (21-8) was back on the diamond for the third straight day as it played Williston State College (7-5) on Wednesday as part of the Tucson Invitational.
The Aztecs defeated the Tetons 4-2 in five innings at the Kino Sports Complex.
Freshman Elijah Reeves (Marana HS) put the Aztecs on the scoreboard in the 2nd inning with an RBI single to drive in freshman Sterling Albrand (Millennium HS).
The Aztecs loaded the bases with three straight walks in the 3rd inning and freshman David Shackelford added to the lead with a two-run RBI single, scoring sophomores Hunter Faildo and Rocco Gump (Seton Catholic HS) to make it 3-0. Shackelford also had a sacrifice-fly RBI in the 4th inning to bring in Gump, who led off by reaching on an error and advancing into scoring position.
Shackelford finished the game 1 for 2 with three RBIs while Gump scored two runs and drew two walks. Faildo went 1 for 2 with a run and walk and Reeves was 1 for 3 with an RBI.
Sophomore Dayne Pengelly picked up the win (2-0) as he pitched two innings, giving up one hit with three strikeouts and one walk.
The Aztecs will close out play in the Tucson Invitational on Friday when they go up against Bismarck State College at the Kino Sports Complex (Field #5). The single game begins at 4:00 p.m.
