Courtney, McGee Finish Top-3 On Final Day of NCAA Championships

(Tulsa, OK)  Sun Devil Wrestling is heading back to Tempe with four All-Americans and a pair of top-3 finishers after three days of action at the NCAA Wrestling Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Brandon Courtney and Michael McGee finished third at 125 and133, respectively, while 149 Kyle Parco finished fourth and HWT Cohlton Schultzfinished seventh. Second-year Cael Valencia qualified but did not place at his first tournament.

It’s the first time a pair of Sun Devils have finished top-3 since 2017 when Zahid Valencia and Tanner Hall both took third, the fourth consecutive season ASU has celebrated at least four All-Americans, and the seventh time in program history ASU has finished with four All-Americans. ASU has now finished in the top-10 21 times.

ASU’s five wrestlers scored a combined 55 points to reach sixth place prior to the start of Saturday night’s finals. Courtney scored the most for ASU, recording 15.5 points, followed by McGee who had 14.5, and Parco who had 13.5. The Sun Devils earned three major decisions, one pin,

McGee put up 20 points in his first bout of the week, a 20-8 major decision over Angelo Rini (Columbia). That’s tied for the second-most single match points of the week. Tanner Harvey of Oregon State also put up 20, and NC State’s Trent Hidlay had 24. In total, McGee recorded 43 points on the weekend, tying for ninth in the tournament. The Sun Devils scored 135 total match points, the 15th most of the tournament
