(Thatcher, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (23-7, 16-6 in ACCAC) dropped its final regular season game on Tuesday at Eastern Arizona College (28-1, 21-1).
The No. 10 ranked Aztecs (Division II) lost to the No. 14 Gila Monsters (Division I) 59-43 in Thatcher. The Aztecs and the Gila Monsters are No. 1 seeds in their respected region tournaments next week.
Sophomore Torrance Begay (Page HS) finished with a team-high 13 points as she was the only Aztec to score in double figures.
Sophomore Matehya Aberle (Holbrook HS) posted nine points and eight rebounds while sophomore Luisa Chavez (Rio Rico HS) added eight points, five rebounds and four steals.
The Aztecs produced a conference record of 16-6 for the fourth time of the last six years (excluding the 2020-21 covid season).
The No. 1 seeded Aztecs will play No. 4 Chandler-Gilbert Community College in the NJCAA Region I, Division II Semifinals on Wednesday, March 8 at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
