(San Marcos, CA) After a grueling 66-100 loss to the University of Saint Katherine, the Park University Gilbert men’s basketball team concluded their season with a conference record of 3-17, finishing last in the California Pacific standings for the second season in a row.
Saint Katherine opened up the game by going on a 11-3 run in the first three minutes, and it only progressed from there. Two turnovers in a row gave the Firebirds of Saint Katherine a quick three-pointer and layup, to put them over the Bucs 25-10.
After six missed shooting opportunities, Park found themselves trailing by a staggering 30 points. It continued throughout the first half, with the Firebirds leading by 31 points before heading into halftime.
The second half proved to be even more disastrous for Park, as they fell behind 51-89 following one of the six Firebird layups. The Buccaneer bench was able to hold their own with 43 points. With the help of Davon Cobbs, Vincent Cooke, and Kobi Cason, Park was able to rotate through their subs without seeing a scoring deficit. Cobbs went on to lead the team with 13 points on 5-11 shooting from the floor.
Cason and LC Ballard both chipped in with nine points apiece. Cook and Zrebric Humphrey Jr.both contributed eight points, with Humphrey Jr. leading the team with five boards.
With the loss, the Buccaneers finished 5-23 overall, and 3-17 in conference.
