Track & Field Records Fall in Fayetteville

(Fayetteville, AR)  Records fell Friday and Saturday for Sun Devil Track and Field at Arkansas’ Tyson Invitational. Sophomore Dayton Carlson, who broke ASU’s outdoor 800m record last spring en route to finishing as an All-American, claimed the program’s indoor 800m mark Saturday (1:47.55), while the 4×400 relay of Justin Robinson, Jalen Drayden, Gamali Felix and Jeremiah Curry ran 3:03.09 to set a new program record as well. Robinson also ran a personal-best 45.87 in the 400m, the second-best mark in the country and the fourth-best time in ASU history. In total the Sun Devil XCTF set seven personal records and four season bests over two days of competition.

Carlson ran a personal-best 1:48.50 last week in New Mexico which pushed him to second all-time at ASU heading into the Tyson Invitational. The second-year Sun Devil has ran the indoor 800m just three times but even his slowest mark put him second all-time. Outdoors the “Freshman Phenom” set a PR almost every time he ran the event over 10 races. His 1:46.72 is the outdoor record and earned him first-time All-America honor. This indoor record bests Mason McHenry’s 1:47.75 from 2009.

The 4×400 has been dialing things in all season. ASU has run under 3:10.00 three times now this season and they’re time today beat Barton, Fitch, Amoo and Peterson’s 3:03.43 from 2004.
