(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s basketball team (11-1) put together another dominating performance on Friday in the second day of the Aztec Holiday Classic.
The No. 18 ranked Aztecs never trailed as they beat Bismarck State College 92-73 at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium.
The Aztecs took their first double digit lead at 22-11 with 11 minutes left in the first half and later went on a 16-5 run to take a 38-16 advantage. The Aztecs led 49-28 at halftime.
Pima took their biggest lead of the game at 80-48 with 10 minutes remaining.
All five starters scored in double figures as freshman Jaylen Alexander had a team-high 18 points on 8 for 9 shooting. He completed the double-double by adding 10 rebounds.
Freshman Mike Pope went 5 for 7 from three-point range and 6 for 8 overall as he finished with 17 points and five assists. Freshman Dillan Baker (Salpointe Catholic HS) also scored 17 points. He also added three rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Sophomore Traivar Jackson finished with 13 points after he went 6 for 9 from the field. He also had two blocks.
Sophomore Cesar Saenz (Sabino HS) had a double-double of 11 points, 10 assists. He also added four rebounds.
The Aztecs shot 19 for 32 (.594) and 8 for 15 from beyond the arc for the first half. Pima out-rebounded the Mystics 41-30 for the game.
The Aztecs will close out play in the Aztec Holiday Classic on Saturday against Frank Phillips College. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
