(Tucson, AZ) Pima Community College men’s basketball players Jaylen Alexander (Columbia HS, ID) and Cesar Saenz (Sabino HS) produced standout performances and were honored by the ACCAC Conference in back-to-back weeks.
Alexander, a freshman forward, was selected ACCAC Division II Player of the Week for the week of November 28-December 4. He averaged 19.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.5 steals in Pima’s wins at Phoenix College and Yavapai College. He also shot 59 percent (13 for 22) from the field and 85 percent (11 for 13) from the free throw line.
Alexander finished with a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds in Wednesday’s 98-84 win over No. 13 ranked Scottsdale Community College. He is averaging 13.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.9 steals and 1.0 block per game.
Alexander followed Saenz, a sophomore guard, who earned ACCAC Division II Player of the Week for the previous week (November 21-27). Saenz earned his award for dropping 28 points on 10 for 19 shooting, 3 for 5 from three-point range and 5 for 5 from the foul line. He also had nine rebounds and five assists in Pima’s 96-83 win over Eastern Arizona College on Nov. 22.
He finished with a game-high 27 points, along with 10 rebounds, five assists and five steals in the Aztecs win on Wednesday against Scottsdale. He is averaging 17.6 points, 5.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 3.4 steals per game.
The Aztecs return to the West Campus Gymnasium on Saturday when they host Cochise College at 2:00 p.m.
