(Mesa, AZ) The Park University Gilbert men’s basketball team dropped their fourth conference game of the season to cross town rivals Benedictine University Mesa 65-49 on Saturday night. With this the Buccaneers fall to eleventh place in the California Pacific Conference.
Park was able to find success early on in the first half, finding the lead over a lost Redhawks lineup. LC Ballard started his night off with nine points out of the gate, however, nothing more came of it as he went 0-6 in the second half.
Olgierd Dmochewicz clinched his fifth double-double of the season, contributing 12 rebounds and 11 points. Vincent Cooke found a groove in the second half, shooting 3-5 from the floor and bagging six points.
Damian Zivak held the Redhawks to a higher standard with a game high of 23 points, shooting 7-12 from behind the arc. It was a hot second half for Ben U, shooting 47.6% around the floor, with the Buccaneers (34.8%) struggling to keep up throughout the night.
Ben U pulled away late in the second half with a 14-4 run thanks to the help of Zivaks three three-pointers. The Redhawks continue on ninth in the Cal Pac with a 2-4 conference record.
The Bucs will host Kansas Wesleyan University on Dec. 19 at 4 p.m. as their final game of the 2022 year. The squad will return to play on Jan. 3 in Prescott, Ariz. to take on Embry-Riddle (AZ).
