(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (6-3, 3-2 in ACCAC) dropped its ACCAC conference game against Cochise College (8-2, 4-1) on Saturday in a match against two nationally ranked teams in their respected divisions.
The No. 12 ranked Aztecs (Division II) fell to the No. 19 ranked Apaches (Division I) 82-61.
The Aztecs fell behind by double digits in the first quarter at 21-11 but cut the deficit in half to end the quarter. It turned into a 14-4 run as they tied the game at 25-25 with 8:29 left in the second quarter.
With the score tied at 27-27, the Apaches went on an 8-0 run to retake the lead. The Aztecs trailed 43-32 at the break.
The Aztecs kept it close in the third quarter but the Apaches went on a 10-0 run in the final three minutes to widen their advantage to 64-44 entering the fourth quarter.
Sophomore Aiona Johnson finished with a team-high 11 points after she went 3 for 6 from three-point range.
Freshman Dominique Acosta (Nogales HS) was the other Pima player to score in double figures as she had 10 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Sophomore Angel Addleman (Palo Verde HS) had nine points, five rebounds and four assists while sophomore Jaden Leslie (Dobson HS) added nine points off the bench.
Sophomore Priscila Varela (Mesquite HS) posted eight points and four rebounds and sophomore Luisa Chavez (Rio Rico HS) contributed with six points, six rebounds and five assists.
The Aztecs will step away from ACCAC conference play as they take on Arizona Christian University JV on Monday in Phoenix. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
