(Mesa, AZ)  The Park University Gilbert volleyball team thought they had worked out the errors which had cost them matches earlier in the season. But tonight, at Bell Bank Park in Mesa, Ariz., the errors reared its ugly head once again as the Buccaneers (21-9, 14-5) fell 3-1 to Embry Riddle (16-11, 13-6) in a Cal Pac Conference match with seeding implications for the conference tournament next week.

The loss snapes a seven-match winning streak for the Bucs along with their consecutive set winning streak was snapped at 22, the second longest in Cal Pac history behind Embry Riddle who won 29 consecutive sets starting in the 2017 season and carrying over in the 2018 campaign.

To say Park Gilbert struggled in server receive would be an understatement, the Bucs committed 16 receiving errors (four in each set) and had a tough time making good passes to set up their offense.  Despite its troubles, Park only had two attack errors in the first set with 18 kills which enabled them to eek out a first set win 25-22.

The Buccaneers also struggled with their serve on the evening and in the second set, seven service errors led to a 25-22 ERAU win in the second stanza. Park still managed to post 14 kills against only four attack errors but could not overcome the miscues in the serve game.

Set three was one of the worst sets the Bucs have played all season.  Park committed eight attack errors, had four receiving errors and two service errors.  Fourteen total points to the Eagles on errors.  ERAU only needed 10 kills themselves to polish off a 25-15 third set win.

The fourth set saw the Bucs win the opening point, but then never saw the lead again.  ERAU opened it up to a five-point advantage at 13-8 before a 10-5 Bucs run knotted the score at 18.  The Eagles called time out, then proceeded to win the next three points to give them a final lead they would not relinquish as they won the final set 25-23.

Amanda Jonovich led the team with 16 kills and only two attack errors, although she did have five service miscues. She hit .368. The Bucs had five players with seven or more kills.  Annika Wallace had 26 assists and Hattie Patton had 23 digs. Railey Druxman and Mallory Turner each set a career high eight and seven blocks respectively.

With the loss the Bucs fall back into fourth place as Saint Katherine beat Antelope Valley. This loss could mean a rematch with ERAU in the first round of the Cal Pac Tournament next week as the Eagles are currently the fifth seed.

The Bucs still have business to attend to as they take on first place Benedictine Mesa on Saturday, November 5 at 6 p.m. in Fieldhouse A at Bell Bank Park. A win would keep them in the hunt for the three seed if USK loses to La Sierra, but a loss locks them into the four seed.
