(Thatcher, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s basketball team (3-0) put together another solid effort on Friday in the second day of the Eastern Arizona Classic.
The No. 16 ranked Aztecs defeated Community Christian College 87-54. Pima took a double digit lead after the first quarter at 23-12 and led 48-30 at halftime. They outscored the Saints 16-6 in the third quarter.
Sophomore Luisa Chavez (Rio Rico HS) led the way with a team-high 22 points as she went 8 for 13 from the field. She also had eight rebounds, seven assists and two steals.
Freshman Dominique Acosta (Nogales HS) posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. She went 6 for 8 from the field.
The Aztecs also got boosts from sophomore Matehya Aberle (Holbrook HS), who finished with six points and eight rebounds while freshman Mariam Traore (AZ Compass Prep) posted six points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Jaden Leslie (Dobson HS) added five points and six assists.
The Aztecs close out play in the Eastern Arizona Classic on Saturday when they face off against Snow College. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m.
