(Coolidge, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s cross country team kick off the postseason after competing at the NJCAA Region I/ACCAC Championships on Saturday held at Central Arizona College.
The Aztecs took second place in Region I, Division I with a score of 45 points but finished in fifth place among the ACCAC conference field with 122 points.
Sophomore Marissa Lopez (Sahuarita HS) was the top finisher for the Aztecs in the 5K race as she took fourth place in Region I, Division I with a time of 21 minutes, 01.6 seconds. She finished 15th among the ACCAC Conference competitiors. Lopez earned both All-ACCAC and All-Region I, Division I honors.
Freshman Julia Lundberg (North Canyon HS) closed out the race with a time of 22:54.1 while freshman Kate Shoemaker (Heritage Academy Mesa) crossed the finish line at 23:09.2.
Freshman Naiomi Hereim (San Tan Foothills HS) finished at 24:46.0 and freshman Iyannah Tolliver (Sahuaro HS) clocked out at 25:12.2.
Lopez, Lundberg, Shoemaker, Hereim and Tolliver all earned All-Region I, Division I honors as the top 12 in the race secured the spots.
The Aztecs will compete at the NJCAA Division I National Championships on Saturday, November 12 held at the Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, FL. The race is scheduled to begin at 9:15 a.m. Tucson time.
