(Tucson, AZ) The Tucson Sugar Skulls have officially brought back running back/kick returner Benjamin Jones, the 2022 IFL Special Teams Player of the Year recipient.
Jones had a sensational rookie season for the Skulls, contributing as a dynamic kick returner and a running back alongside Mike Jones in the backfield.
The rookie led the league in kickoff returns with 57 attempts and yards per return with 17.4. He racked up a total of 1,120 return yards and took three back for touchdowns. His longest return recorded was 55 yards.
He rushed for 67 yards on 14 attempts (4.7 yards per carry) and scored three touchdowns on the ground attack, including a 28-yard run. Jones also had 7 receptions for 57 yards on the season.
Jones played for McNeese State in college, where his explosiveness was on full display his senior season, as he averaged 35 yards on kick returns, registering a 99- yard touchdown. For his career with McNeese, Jones racked up 920 all-purpose yards and averaged 7.1 yards a carry.
