Sun Belt College League July 11 Results

(Tucson, AZ)  If the final regular season games in the Sun Belt College League where the appetizer, the upcoming league playoffs are going to be a special entre for baseball fans in Tucson.

The three top teams in the standings had trouble handling the three teams in the lower portion of the standings in what turned out to be three outstanding collegiate baseball games.

NORTHWEST NIGHTHAWKS  4, OLD TUCSON GAUCHOS  3

The fifth place Nighthawks scored two runs in the top of the eighth and held on to defeat the third place Gauchos 4-3

Shane Melick (Ironwood Ridge HS) had a triple and drove in a run.

Alex Londono (Arizona Christian College-Phoenix) chipped in with two hits

Mason Saint Hilarie (Ironwood Ridge HS) had two hits, Reagan Reynolds (Gateway CC-Phoenix) was the winning pitcher of the Nighthawks in relief pitching 1 2/3 innings allowing one hit and striking out one

Landon Lawler had two hits and drove in a run for the Gauchos.

OLD PUEBLO KINGS 4, CATALINA AZTECS 1

The fourth place Kings made life tight for the Aztecs with a 4-1 win.  With Gaucho lost to the Nighthawks, the Aztecs where able to survive to and maintain the second place seed in the upcoming playoffs and avoid playing in the opening round single elimination play in game.

Alex Stephens (Dickinson State-ND) had three hits that included a double for the Kings.

Brody Boisvert also had three hits, including a double and drove in two runs.

Juan Antonio Garcia pitched eight strong innings for the Kings allowing four hits and striking out eight.

Adrian Alcantar (Lake Region State-ND) had a hit and drove in the only Aztec run.

VAIL REBELS 7,  SPEEDWAY GAMBLERS 7

The defending champion Rebels captured first place in the regular season, but where in a hard fought battle with sixth place Speedway Gamblers.  Both teams fought to a 7-7 tie.

Caleb Herd (Cienega HS had a grand slam home run for the Rebels.

Isaiah Jackson (Cienega HS-ASU) hit a solo homer for the Rebels.

Erubiel Ozuna (Central Lakes College-Minnesota) two hits, Milo Rushford (Walden Grove HS-New Mexico State) two hits and two runs batted in, Leonel Villa (Central Lakes College-Minnesota) double three runs batted in, and Colby Gaines (Walden Grove HS) drove in two runs for the Gamblers.

NOTE:  If the Semi-Finals series does not require a 3rd game on July 18, the League Championship Series will start on Monday, July 18 with game 1 and continue with game 2 on Tuesday, July 19 and game 3 if necessary on Wednesday, July 20
