(San Francisco, CA) Sun Devil softball placed eight student-athletes on the Pac-12 All-Conference team announced by the league office Wednesday morning. The list includes breakout freshman Cydney Sanders earning Pac-12 Freshman of the Year and head coach Trisha Ford earning her second Pac-12 Coach of the Year award, her first since 2018. It’s also the first time since 2012 that Sun Devil Softball has had four players on the All-Conference First-Team. The individual awards and the All-Pac-12 Softball Team are selected by Pac-12 head coaches.
Sanders, is the fourth Sun Devil to win the Pac-12/10 Freshman of the year award, the first time since 2011 when Dallas Escobedo won the honor. The freshman leads the team in home runs (17), RBI’s (53), walks (34) and slugging percentage (.950) while she ranks second on the team in hits (51), runs (45) and on-base percentage (.557). Sanders was also selected to the All-Pac-12 First team and the All-Freshman team.
Trisha Ford earns her second Pac-12 honor with being announced as the conference’s Coach of the Year, her first coming in 2018 when she led Arizona State to the Women’s College World Series and to a 48-13 record. This season, Ford has led the Sun Devils to a 37-8 record and a Pac-12 record of 18-3 which is on the cusp of the program’s first conference title in 11 years. She led Arizona State to a 20-game winning streak, the longest since 2010 and the fourth longest in program history and includes the second-best home conference record of 11-1 this season.
Senior Yanni Acuña, Lindsay Lopez and Alynah Torres represent Arizona State on the Pac-12’s All-Conference first team. Acuña earns her first career all-conference honor by ranking fourth in conference in batting average (.420), first in doubles (16) and first in runs (53) and has tallied 12 home runs on the season. Lopez, who recently was named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week after a stellar performance against UCLA, earns her second career All-Pac-12 honor after leading the team with a 1.56 ERA, 66 strikeouts in 94.1 innings. Torres earns her first career All-Pac-12 honor with five leadoff home runs. Since conference play began in March, Torres ranks first in home runs (11), second in RBIs (23) and second in slugging percentage (.878).
Being awarded on the second-team and third-team for Arizona State is Marissa Schuld and Jazmine Hill, followed by Jazmyn Rollin and freshman pitcher Mac Morgan.
Schuld earns her first career all-conference honor after leading the team in strikeouts with 84, and leading the team in saves with three which ranks second in conference. Jazmine Hill, earns her second career all-conference honor after being named to the All-Third and All-Freshman last year. She was named Pac-12 Player of the Week on April 11th after a dominating series vs. Oregon and has 12 home runs on the season which ranks fifth on the team. She has the second most RBIs (42) on the team.
Jazmyn Rollin, a transfer coming from Missouri, earns her first Pac-12 honor by being named to the third team, she ranks fourth on the team with 13 home runs while Morgan was also named to the third-team after leading the team in wins (15) while tallying 51 strikeouts, five complete games in 84 innings this season.
The Sun Devils will travel to Seattle to conclude the regular season this weekend, Friday, May 13 – Sunday May 15 as they take on Pac-12 opponent, Washington. All games can be seen on Pac-12 Network this weekend.
