(Tucson, AZ) Pima Community College women’s soccer player Mari Acosta (Sahuarita HS) earned national recognition on Tuesday for her play during the 2021 season.
Acosta, a freshman midfielder/forward, was selected second team NJCAA Division II All-American. She is the first Pima women’s soccer player to be named an NJCAA All-American since Devyn Hunley (Sabino HS) in 2015.
Acosta played in all 22 games; making 21 starts. She scored a team-tying 11 goals and had two assists finishing with 24 points.
Acosta was also named first team All-ACCAC and first team All-Region I, Division II. She helped the Aztecs earn an overall record of 16-4-2 and cap off the season with a Runner-Up finish at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament. The Aztecs also captured their first NJCAA Region I, Division II Championship since 2015.
