(Tucson, AZ) For the second straight match, the Pima Community College volleyball team (14-9, 9-4 in ACCAC) rallied twice and came away with a win in the fifth-set tiebreaker.
The Aztecs defeated Mesa Community College 23-25, 25-23, 15-25, 25-22, 15-7 and have clinched a spot in the NJCAA Region I, Division II Tournament.
The Aztecs trailed 4-2 in the final set but scored 13 of the final 16 points to seal the win.
Sophomore Andrea Vigil-German (Ironwood Ridge HS) tied the set with her kill and sophomore Hayley Duncan (Walden Grove HS) had two straight blocks that dropped for points as Pima took a 6-4 lead. Sophomore Kaylee Moseley’s (Marana HS) spike gave the Aztecs their biggest lead of the set at 14-6. Duncan’s final kill closed out the match.
Moseley led the Aztecs with a team-high of 14 kills along with three blocks. Freshman Lina Kassimatis also finished in double figures with 10 kills.
Sophomore Karla Soto (Nogales HS) had a double-double of 26 assists and 10 digs to go along with three aces while fellow sophomore Isabella Jacome posted 22 assists, eight digs and three aces.
Duncan and sophomore Jessica Bright-Schade (Safford HS) each finished with nine kills. Bright-Schade also had 11 digs. Vigil-German contributed with eight kills and 14 digs and sophomore Aydalis Felix (Rincon HS) had 26 digs.
The Aztecs close out the regular season with two home matches at the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium. They will host No. 15 ranked Glendale Community College on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
