(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s soccer team (5-1) got back on track on Tuesday as it downed Yavapai College (3-5) at the West Campus Aztec Soccer Field part of the Chapman Automotive Sports Complex.
The No. 9 ranked Aztecs scored two goals in each half beating the Roughriders 4-0. This is the first season for the Yavapai women’s soccer program.
Freshman Marilyn McFeaters (Palo Verde HS) scored two goals for the Aztecs. She scored in the 36th minute with an assist from sophomore Twyla Himmel (Ironwood Ridge HS) to make it 2-0. She added the final insurance goal off a penalty kick in the 63rd minute.
Sophomore Nayeli Vidal (Sahuaro HS) put the Aztecs on the board in the 13th minute with her goal that was assisted by freshman Savannah Gutierrez (Tucson Magnet HS).
Sophomore Kaitlyn Bassett (Sabino HS) made it 3-0 as she netted her goal in the 52ndminute. Freshman Delaney Buntin (Cienega HS) had the assist.
The Aztecs finished with 12 shots on goal to Yavapai’s seven. Sophomore Angelina Amparano (Salpointe Catholic HS) finished with seven saves.
The Aztecs return to the road on Friday when they play GateWay Community College at the NOS Santos Complex in Mesa. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
